The DOE Ribbon

Quantum XL adds its own tabs to the Excel ribbon. The Design of Experiments tools live on the tab labelled QXL DOE New, and every ribbon path in this section starts there.

The tab has three groups: Design, Analysis and Options.

The italic words in those paths, Modeling, Screening, Special and Import, are headings inside the menu rather than things you click.

Setup Historical Analysis opens Create Custom Design

Both menu entries open the same dialog. There is no separate historical analysis tool: the custom design flow is how historical data is set up for analysis, and has been since version 17. See Create Custom Design.

Modify Design has thirteen entries under four headings, Inputs, Outputs, Replicate Format and Randomization. Nine of them open the one Modify Design dialog at the part you asked for, so Add/Remove Center Points and Modify Axial Value (CCD Only) land in the same place, as do Change Blocking/Folding and Add/Remove Replicates. The other four act on the sheet immediately with no dialog: Generate Random Output Data, Convert From Table To Stacked, Convert From Stacked To Table and Randomize Run Order. Generate Random Output Data is the one of those four that can still stop and ask: if the output columns already hold data it puts up a Yes/No question, Outputs already contain data. followed by Do you want to overwrite it with random data?, and only overwrites on Yes. The other three never ask. All thirteen are listed on Modify Design.

Parse for Monte Carlo not a DOE command. It reads the model on a regression sheet and writes an IPO sheet for the Monte Carlo tools, which is where it is documented. Its own tooltip says it sits on this tab temporarily, for parallel testing, and also says it accepts a design sheet, which it does not

What each command needs before you run it

Most DOE commands act on the active sheet, so which sheet is selected when you click matters.

Command group What it needs
Design Wizard, Create Design Nothing. They will use a blank workbook, or open one
Modify Design A design sheet as the active sheet
Run Regression, Uncoded Coefficients A design sheet with responses entered
Optimize A regression sheet
Charts A regression sheet, or for some charts a design sheet, see Chart Source
Parse for Monte Carlo A regression sheet. From a design sheet it asks you to pick one, and says Workbook doesn't have regression sheets. if the workbook has none

If the active sheet is not one a command can use, the software asks you to pick a sheet rather than failing, so a wrong starting sheet costs a click and not a run.
